Project One: Week Two

Project One is a consecutive project that is due every week with the same rules. It is three pieces that are 11in x 17in. These three pieces (three produced each week) has to be based on one word that has a lot of meanings.

Week Two of Project One was due was August 31, 2016, this is what I produced and installed in class. The first three are the original photos, and beneath that is how I actually installed them in class.

By the time my class Image started, everyone was pretty tired so our teacher gave us 15 minutes to do whatever. In those 15 minutes I wanted to figure out a way for my pieces to stand out (not just rectangles on the wall), so I thought quickly on what to do. This is the first thing that came into my head and I could picture it perfectly, so I decided to quickly apply this to my work. Below are detail shots of each one.

Modes of Persuasion

Notes on Video 350 BCE Aristotle organized his Modes of Persuasion into three different categories that would help made things more appealing to audiences: “Of the modes of persuasion furnished by the spoken work there are three kinds  : Ethos - Persuasion is achieved by the speaker’s personal character when the speech is so spoken as to make us think him credible Pathos - Secondly, persuasion may come through the hearers, when he speech stirs their emotions Logos - Persuasion is effected through the speech itself when we have proved a truth or an apparent truth by means of the persuasive arguments suitable to the case in question.” Ethos: An Ethical Appeal Greek for “ character” - Persuading based of the character of the author Does the author have credibility? Rhetoric

PART ONE: research I first started out with this project with research and figuring out what rhetoric is. Definitions: the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques. language designed to have a persuasive or impressive effect on its audience, but often regarded as lacking in sincerity or meaningful content. The ends justify the means Nice Quotes: “Every manufactured item send out signals to the mind or emotions. These signals - strong or weak, wanted or unwanted, clear or hidden, create feelings.” - Dieter Rams “For Rhetoric, language is never simply a form of expression: it is a functional tool that is manipulated to achieve desired ends.” - Ellen Lupton “Misunderstanding associates rhetoric with the bombastic and hollow, with fraud and seduction, with deceit and sheer ornamentation. The long history of this art, in contrast to popular assumptions, tells us that rhetoric has been concerne...
