  The whole Department of Graphic Design was in research session for Monday, August 21 for totality of the solar eclipse. All design students took part in observing a rare astronomical event which has been described as most spectacular and weird. For this assignment, we made work based on this event and our interpretation and experience of it. We gathered sound and image, wrote, diagramed, etc., while also slowing down and taking in the event.   At first I did not want to make an installation / experiential design of my experience, because it was already a happening everyone had already experienced. But thinking of a way around just showing the eclipse (something everyone already saw) I would take my individual and peculiar experience of being in the pool to the audience. The next project for Type 3 we had to design a product that people (student designers) could use to learn about a specific part of typography / typesetting. We were supposed to choose an aspect about type that we necessarily did not know ourselves / something we could have used when learning to typeset The Exegesis. After typesetting The Exegesis, I realized my biggest issue was margins and layout design. So, I teamed up with Brooke Cirone to develop a product that people can play with to help view text boxes in a manipulative and creative way. This helped me understand spatial value, and understanding that layouts don't just have to be boxes - they can be any shape you please. We also had to develop packaging, I wanted to create a box with a sticker to show the branding - but time and costs became a big issue. We had to typeset the Exegesis of Philip K. Dick and professionally print them through Blurb. For presentations we had to write a brief, one paragraph summary of our approach to the book and cover. This is what I wrote: The approach to this book reflects one of minimalistic properties. I chose one column to create a flow throughout each page and stay consistent throughout the book. Each verse is placed on the outer left of the column corresponding with the paragraph it is tied to, appearing like folder tabs (as folders is the main theme). This is reflected in the cover of the book as well, where the treatment of the prepositions are also placed on the left hand side and flipped sideways like the verses in the text. Each chapter page has a border with a chosen image that is blown up to achieve an eerie effect.
